This season, Sotheby’s celebrates the new Sotheby’s Diamonds salon, the perfect place to choose jewels for this autumn, assisted by a dedicated team offering a bespoke service for any occasion or event.
The salon, which is located just inside the entrance at Sotheby’s New Bond Street, presents High Jewellery, unique and exceptional creations; the D Flawless Collection of rare, near perfect stones; and collections, including Steel, Ricci and Belle Époque. The underlying inspiration of art in the jewellery designs is symbolised by the continuous presence of an original artwork in the salon.
New York architect, Bill Sofield, founder of Studio Sofield, took inspiration from the discretion and charm of Victorian arcades in London’s most exclusive shopping neighbourhood and his design is very much rooted in tradition. The coach-lacquered façade and lobby recall Burlington and similar arcades and also the carriage passage that once occupied the site in the 18th century. The half-moon window arches and bowed frames that curve their way to the entrance are finished in a dramatic high gloss black lacquer.
Inside the salon a series of three rooms offer an intimate setting to view the jewellery. There is not a single detail that is not custom; from the cast hardware to the heirloom quality furnishings.
Speaking about the new salon, Patti Wong, Chairman of Sotheby’s Diamonds and Sotheby’s Asia, said: “The new Sotheby’s Diamonds salon is a capsule of timeless design and delight – to me a perfect showcase for our contemporary yet classic offering. We are now located on New Bond Street, positioned among the world’s most prestigious jewellers, in addition to our salons in New York and Hong Kong.”
Sotheby’s Diamonds salon opening hours are 9.30–5.30 daily, at 34-35 New Bond Street, London
